How to fix a sticky "play" on.?

My son has an lcd tv/dvd player combo in his room. No cable, but we do put on his dvds for him sometimes. However, he spilled his juice near the tv and somehow it ended up getting into some of the ons. We have since moved the tv somewhere inaccessible to him, but the play on is stuck. Since the only thing he watches is DVDs, it is pretty much impossible to get past the menu screen with a sticky play on (did I mention we don't have the remote? Tried buying a universal one, but couldn't seem to find a code that worked for a Sanyo LCD/DVD combo). Anyways, does anyone know how to get the on unstuck without taking the tv apart??
