Question About God's Appearance?

I believe that when the scriptures say that we were created in the image of God that it meant in our abilities to also create think reason and feel it was more of the character not appearance. But at the fall of man in the garden we became sinful and our nature changed that is why we must be born again, so that God can create in us a new creature and give us a new heart and character one that reembles Him instead of the fallen or sinful nature.
